Whether you’re looking for a romantic date night out with your significant other this Valentine’s Day, or if you are avoiding the holiday entirely and plan on staying cozy on the couch, we’ve got you covered!

We’ve put together our favorite romantic and fun things to do throughout the Capital District with your significant other, best friend, or family.

EXPLORE THE OUTDOORS

Although the weather has been quite cold over these last few weeks we are experiencing a slight heat wave as we approach Valentines Day. Grab your winter jacket and head over to Empire State Plaza for a perfect first date spot to break the ice.

Did you know that the capital district offers over 20 miles of marked trails for snow shoeing and cross country skiing at the Albany Pine Bush Preserve. Hit the trails for a sunset trek and head to a local restaurant to end the night.

Lastly, if you and your partner ski or snowboard, grab your gear and head to Jiminy Peak or West Mountain for a quick getaway and warm up with some hot chocolate under the stars.

WINE TASTINGS

Hudson Chatham Winery: " They are food wines meant to accompany meals where friends, family and lovers come together to share a common bond." Spend the afternoon sipping wine and dazing into the beautiful scenery that the vineyard has to offer or stop by their newest tasting room in downtown Troy.

Thirsty Owl: The family owned business brings wines from Finger Lakes region of western NY to downtown Saratoga Springs. On Valentines day they are offering a four course meal with live entertainment. To learn more about the special event click here.

Royal Meadery: "Mead is the world's oldest fermented beverage. It is produced by mixing honey, yeast and water.  Mead can also use a wide variety of ingredients including fruits, flowers and spices." Check out more on the newest business to hit the capital district in Delmar, NY. After your tasting head over to Twisted Vine for some live music and small plates for their Valentines day event.

WATCH YOUR FAVORITE TEAM

One of our favorite pastimes in New York  is - you guessed it - our local sports teams! Take your partner or friends on a date night to watch your favorite team at the Times Union Center, RPI Field House, SEFCU Arena at the University of Albany or Carrier Dome if you down for a little drive!

TRY A NEW RESTAURANT

What better time than Valentine's Day should you and your significant other (or family!) go outside your comfort zone and try out new food? We recommend Plumb in Troy, Rocco's on Main Street in Clifton Park,  and the Glass Tavern in Schenectady.

LETS COOK!

Throw on some comfortable clothes, crack open a bottle of wine, and get to cooking! If you are looking for something creative and low key to do this would be a great bonding experience to bring you both into a creative space and get your hands dirty. Figure out before hand what type of cuisine you plan to prepare and shop the local groceries stores to gather your goodies. Check out these mouth watering recipe ideas  and what you will need to conquer the meal. May the strongest couple survive!
